$20,000 bond set for Clarendon County teen accused of shooting, killing father

A $20,000 bond was set Tuesday for the 16-year-old suspect charged with murder in the shooting death of his father at their Turbeville home Saturday evening.

Sheriff Randy Garrett said Dustin Parshley allegedly shot and killed 38-year-old Jeremiah Parshley following a domestic dispute that broke out at their home.

Garrett said deputies responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Sandhill Road in reference to a shooting at 11 p.m. When deputies arrived they located Jeremiah Parshley dead in the front yard of the home.

Garrett said after further investigation, deputies discovered there had been a domestic dispute between Parshley and his wife. After the dispute was over, Parshley went into his room to retrieve some belongings. As Parshley was leaving the home, Dustin Parshley allegedly retrieved a handgun and shot him four times in the back.

The teen admitted to deputies that he was the one who shot his father, according to Garrett.

Garrett said the son was remorseful when he admitted to deputies he had shot his father.

“There was no doubt that the father loved his son, and the son loved his father,” Garrett said.

Garrett said although deputies have responded to the home before regarding a burglary call, there has been no history of domestic violence. Dustin Parshley will be tried as an adult in the case.
