Police searching for suspect after Sumter shooting

Police are looking for a gunman after officials say a man was shot in Sumter and later died Sunday.

Sumter police found Rafael Ramirez Durant shot in the upper body in front of a house on Maxwell Street just after midnight Sunday, according to a news release.

Durant was first taken to Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, the release said. He was then taken to Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia where police say he later died.

Details about the shooting are not available, according to the release. However, police believe the shooting is an isolated incident, the release said.
