Person-of-interest in Gentry shooting death surrenders
Willette June Wilson, 48, identified as a person of interest two days ago in the July 28 death of Timothy Peter Gentry, turned herself in to Columbia Police, the department reported in a news release Wednesday.
Gentry, a 32-year-old Clemson grad who worked with children in Columbia and was involved in overseas charity work, was fatally shot during the early hours of July 28 near his Columbia home. He was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body lying in the roadway of the 1200 block of Beaufort Street. He died a short time later at a local hospital.
Police investigators reviewed surveillance video taken near the area of the shooting and checked out two vehicles towed from Beaufort Street.
The possible shooter was described as a thin, dark-skinned black male of medium height with short braids or dreadlocks, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a statement released the afternoon after the shooting.
Investigators believe Wilson has information related to the case and are working with her attorney, the news release stated.
