Police: Argument over Confederate flag led to Rock Hill assault

A woman was charged with assaulting two men during an argument over one of them wanting to erect a Confederate flag in his back yard, according to Rock Hill Police.

Makayla Haney, 25, was intoxicated and carrying her 2-year-old child when officers arrived, according to a police report. She told officers she and the father of her child were arguing over him wanting to hang a Confederate flag in his back yard when he pushed her to the ground and sat on her chest while the man’s father punched her in the back of the head.

But the child’s father told officers Haney reportedly threw a can of corn at him that didn’t hit him and then hit his father with a cooking pot when he tried to keep her from chasing his son outside.

A witness corroborated the men’s story, and police found a pot on the floor of the home and a can of corn outside.
