Richland County coroner identifies man shot, killed Sunday near Garners Ferry Road

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was shot and killed Sunday evening near Garners Ferry Road.

Coroner Gary Watts said 48-year-old Timothy Ray Morgan, of Columbia, died just before 8 p.m. from complications of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police chief Skip Holbrook said officers responded to the 7300 block of Patterson Road shortly before 7 p.m. after several people reported hearing shots fired in the area.

Holbrook said when officers arrived on scene, the victim was already being transported to a local hospital.

Officers met with potential witnesses who reported seeing the victim stumble to the ground following the gunshots, Holbrook said.
