Newberry police charge man with murder in Halloween shooting death
Newberry police charged a man with murder Wednesday night after he allegedly shot and killed a man at a Halloween party.
Chief Roy McClurkin said 31-year-old Christopher Omar Cromer was taken into custody without incident after he turned himself into police.
McClurkin said Cromer has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
According to initial reports, a fight broke out at a early morning Halloween party at the Drayton Street Center in Newberry when multiple shots were fired. The Newberry County Coroner said Richard Richshon Devell Sims, 24, was sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body and died at the scene.
McClurkin said Cromer has been transported to the Newberry County Detention Center, where he will be held pending a bond hearing.
