Lexington county officials charged two suspects with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a Swansea man in Gaston Friday morning.

Fareed Rasheed Makeen and Teresa Farris Epley were present and involved with the shooting death of Ryan Williams, who was identified as the victim of the shooting by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. The 21-year-old Williams, of Swansea, was shot to death at about 11:30 a.m. Friday on the 1200 block of Meadowfield Road, according to Fisher.

An autopsy performed on Williams indicated he suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

“Makeen was arrested this afternoon on a traffic stop in Virginia by officers of the Chesapeake Police Department,” said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon. “He’s being held in the Chesapeake Correctional Center. We will seek his extradition back to Lexington County.”

Koon said investigators arrested Epley in West Columbia Friday night. She’s being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a judge denied bond.

Makeen, 48, is a Jenkinsville resident. Epley, 46, resides in Swansea. Both could face additional charges in this case.

“Our investigation into this death is still open, we continue to gather information on the sequence of events as they unfolded on Friday,” Koon said. “We hope anyone with information on what happened or the nature of the relationships between those involved will come forward.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
