A man accused of driving under the influence and hitting a motorcyclist Saturday was arrested by the Columbia Police Department.

Christopher Nazry, 48, was charged with Felony DUI and Hit and Run, public information liaison Jennifer Timmons said of the incident that occurred on Saturday shortly before 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Fontaine and Wilkes Roads.

Nazry was traveling North in a Ford pick-up truck on Farrow Road when he struck the motorcycle driver who was traveling in the opposite direction, according to Timmons, who said witnesses followed Nazry as he left the scene.

Officers found Nazry at a Maurice Street home, noting slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person, said Timmons, adding several field sobriety tests were conducted before arresting Nazry, who was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries before he was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The motorcycle rider was taken to an area hospital and remains in the intensive care unit.
