Saluda officer, suspect injured during arrest
A Saluda County Sheriff’s Department officer and a suspect were injured during an attempt to serve a warrant on Old Lexington Road about 5 p.m. on Friday, May 13.
Lt. Russ Padget was injured when his police car was struck by a car driven by Samuel Huguenin Jr., the sheriff’s department said. Huguenin was being sought by Padget, Saluda Deputy Dale Hallman and three Lexington Sheriff’s deputies. Huguenin was hit during an exchange of gunfire with the deputies. He was taken into custody and was in the hospital, guarded by Saluda County Jail officers.
Lt. Padget was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. Officers involved are on paid administrative leave per department policy.
"I'm proud of my deputies," said Sheriff John C. Perry, "Under the most extreme circumstances, they maintained their professionalism, apprehended the suspect, and ensured that no one else in the community was hurt in this incident."
