Richland County coroner identifies person found in Broad River Saturday

The Richland County Coroner released the name of the person found in the Broad River on Saturday evening.

Columbia’s Lindsay Kellam McKay, 37, was recovered from the river at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, adding an autopsy indicated that McKay died from drowning.

Officers responded to Broad River Road at the end of Greenwyche Drive, near Interstate 20, at about 9 p.m. regarding a report of someone in the water, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The Columbia Fire Department retrieved McKay’s body from the river, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson said.

The sheriff’s department continues to investigate.
