Dental records confirm identity of Columbia woman who died fleeing police

After officials sought help from the public to identify a woman who died in a car crash after fleeing from Forest Acres police, dental records confirmed the remains were of a Columbia resident.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Lennetta Tierra Perry, 22, of Colleton St. was involved in a single-vehicle wreck around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on the 3100 block of Two Notch Road, according to a news release from his office

She reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed after the Forest Acres Police Department attempted a traffic stop on the 5200 block of Two Notch Road.

The vehicle crashed into utility poles and a fence, and Perry was trapped inside when the vehicle caught fire, officials reported eralier.

Perry was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The coroner used dental records to confirm her identity.

An autopsy performed Sunday indicated Perry died from blunt trauma of the head and torso sustained during the wreck.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this wreck.
