Tuesday Walmart shooting ‘isolated incident’
Investigators say the shooting in the parking lot of the Garners Ferry Road Walmart on Tuesday afternoon was an “isolated incident,” Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities have not determined whether six people detained Tuesday night have anything to do with the shooting that sent a man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Holbrook said.
The six people were in a white sedan stopped by Richland County sheriff’s deputies several miles away from the Walmart on Decker Boulevard. The sedan, which had been reported stolen in Richland County, “is connected to the store shooting,” Holbrook said. It was seen leaving the the area after the shooting.
Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the gun attack
Authorities are appealing to any witnesses to the shooting that fled the area to come forward and tell what they saw. They are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, text CRIMES (274637) and mark the beginning of the message with “TIPSC” followed by the tip information, or log onto www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and click on the red “Submit a tip” tab.
