Man charged with murder in Gadsden shooting death
A man found shot in 2400 block of South Cedar Creek Road in Gadsden died Saturday night and a suspect has been charged.
Ira Ellison, 28, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
The victim, identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Charles John Adam Hopkins, 20, of Eastover, died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The two knew each other, Wilson said, and an altercation led to the shooting.
Deputies responded to a shots fired call at 3:20 p.m. Saturday and found the injured 20-year-old man. He was taken to Palmetto Health Richland, where he later died.
His identity had not been released early Sunday afternoon. A Sheriff’s Department investigation is continuing.
