Calhoun woman accused of killing dog by pulling it alongside car

A grandmother accused of killing a dog by pulling it alongside her car until it could not keep up is wanted for questioning in a felony animal-cruelty case.

The suspect — a black woman between the ages of 44 and 65, with slightly graying hair — was spotted Aug. 26 driving westbound near the 1500 block of Kennerly Road, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and CrimeStoppers.

The witness said the driver held her arm out the window holding a rope, and that the dog attached to it was unable to keep up, according to Taylor Hendrix of CrimeStoppers. She was driving a 2005 to 2012 dark-colored Chevrolet sedan, possibly blue or dark gray.

The witness said she took the rope away from the suspect, who she did not know, after making her stop the vehicle on Kennerly Road. The suspect stated the dog was good but added with a laugh that it tried to bite her grandchildren. The suspect then drove away, according to an account provided by Hendrix.

Another witness said he saw the dog act aggressively toward some kids, but no one questioned could identify the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call in anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or text TIPSCS, plus a message to CRIMES (274637). Tips leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the crime could result in a cash reward of as much as $1,000.
