Richland 2 black parents group to host board candidates forum

The Richland 2 Black Parents Association, which figured prominently in the most recent school board race two years ago, plans to host a candidates forum next month in advance of the November school board elections.

A dozen candidates are vying for three at-large seats on the school board, which governs the Midlands’ largest school district.

In 2014, the Black Parents Association played an outspoken role in a racially charged election season that led to a shake-up in the racial composition of the Richland 2 board.

The Black Parents Association has reached out to board candidates to attend the forum that will allow them to interact with parents and the community.

The forum will take place Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church, 224 O’Neil Court, Unit 5, Columbia.

The candidates are: Lindsay Agostini, Anthony Bracy, Henry Counts, Monica Elkins (incumbent), Kay Harvey, Evangelina Hemphill, Bill McCracken, James Mobley, Keith Powell, Jamie Shadd, Shelly Williams and Milton Wright.
