Stephon Gilmore joins Alshon Jeffery in supporting Clinton
Two former University of South Carolina football stars hit the campaign trail Friday alongside Hillary Clinton as she prepared for the state’s Democratic presidential primary Saturday.
Alshon Jeffery of the Chicago Bears and Stephon Gilmore of the Buffalo Bills both returned to their home state to campaign with Clinton in Orangeburg and Columbia
“This election is too important for me to sit on the sidelines,” Jeffery said in a statement. “She is the most qualified person for the job, and I know she is ready to lead on Day 1. I am happy to get in the game for Secretary Clinton.”

Jeffery and Gilmore are not the only high-profile S.C. athletes who have voiced their support for a presidential candidate this election cycle.
Former USC quarterback Connor Shaw introduced U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., at a rally last week in Chapin.
Former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd campaigned for Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich in South Carolina.
