Letters: We’ll need that nuclear capacity to power our cars
Some have said the electric power needs that fueled the SCANA/Santee Cooper nuclear construction were vastly overstated. Not so fast. The “clean” electric car revolution is coming on us sooner than we thought.
So far, eight U.S. states and five countries want to ban new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2050. France by 2020. Norway by 2025. Toyota sees gas-engine cars gone by 2050.
China is building 20 new nuclear plants; Russia seven; India five.
Our U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission should help us with a little technical advice, consultation, and even some emergency funding.
