Letters: What if that was your daughter at Spring Valley?

Student video shows then-Richland County senior Deputy Ben Fields trying to remove a student who refused to leave her Spring Valley High School math class.

I would ask those who believe the deputy did exactly what was required at Spring Valley High School to picture the student as your daughter, granddaughter or niece. How would you feel now?

Some have blamed a lack of good parenting for the confrontation, but what do we know about the student’s parents?

In the video, it is obvious that the student was being non-compliant and that she needed to be responsible for her negative behavior; however, and most of all, did the offense justify the punishment?

Before answering, be honest with yourself. Place your child in the student’s place. Honestly, what is your position on the incident now?
