Local tennis column
Nine local teams won state titles at the USTA combo championships last month in Charleston.
State champion teams were:
A 9.5 men's team out of Topspin: Jamie Benefield, Will Brown, Graham Cox, Jamie Freeman, Nick Gaffos, Jordan Hunter, Eric Jackson, Carlos Lozano, Ben McFarland, Tom Schlichtman (captain) and Tim Sinclair.
A 9.5 women's team out of Lexington Tennis Center: Catherine Dunagan, Delaine Hare, Catherine Hewitt, Kimberly McMahan, Kerri Metts, Victoria Moody, Sunny Reeves, Harriet Reid and Cathy Taylor (captain).
A 7.5 men's team out of Lexington Tennis Center: Lucas Berresford, Jeremy Burns, Kurt Davenport, Jamie Freeman, David Glenn, James Hardin, Brad Jasinski, David Jones, Taylor Luthren, Tyler McGaha (captain), Troy Newton, Stephen Nuttall, Gil Pipes, Bruce Reinecker, Anh Salmonson, Brian Tolley and Jim Wescott.
A 6.5 men's super senior team out of Southeast Park: John Alexander, Joe Bailey, John Bass, Richard Holmes, Harold Ingram, David Loftin, David Medlin, Chris Nettles, Rich Robbins, Troy Sumner and Randy Watts (captain).
A 6.5 men's team out of Caughman Road: Mikel Austin, John Beach, Jamone Boulware, Jeff Covington, Amber Faller, Carl Hokanson, George Jameson, Michael Kenley, David Kettinger, Bob Masella (captain), Jim McInnis, Michael Pesant, William Thompson, Gene Utsey, Mark Wagnon and Alfonza Williams.
A 6.5 women's super senior team out of Rockbridge: Marianne Bundy, Bettianne Davenport, Beth Donelan, Linda Gillespie, Carol Grich, Anna Griswold, Nancy Hancock, Rebecca Krueger, Wanda Loftin, Mary Menkhaus, Jennifer Quillen, Caroline Porcari, Judy Stiles, Lorelle Wise and Anne Wyndham.
A 6.5 women's team out of Greenview: Tina Abraham, Jamie Austin (captain), Lisa Bronson, Pat Butler, Peggy Dingle, Paulette Edwards, Tara Green, Yvonne Holan, Fabrienne Payne, Leslie Phelps, Valerie Rankin and Deborah Staley.
A 5.5 men's team out of Rockbridge: Ronald Aiken, Bryan Allen, Scott Burgess (captain), Timothy Carroll, Joseph Herbkersman, Martin Herbkersman, Michael Knapp, Scott Lambe, David Lee, Stephen Long, Andy Medes, Alex Postic, C. Anderson Riley, Fred Smith and Rob Tyson.
A 5.0 women's team out of St. Andrews Park: Leila Bressler, Gandy Britt, Becky Hunter, Tammy Mainwaring (captain), Dorothy Marchant, Brooke Perkins, Elizabeth Plyler, Stephanie Price, Sheri Thompson and Page Wade.
Super Seniors
Ray McBride's super senior mixed doubles team out of Rawls Creek won the 7.0 division at the state championships in Aiken. In addition to McBride, team members were: Sandra Tankersley, Barbara Sellers, Ruth Ann Calais, Nell Grant, Mary Townhill, Carolyn Myers, Nathan Spell, Richard Robinson, Willis Johnson and Hampton Metts.
Wildewood Juniors
The Wildewood Junior Tournament was held Nov. 6-8 at Wildewood Country Club.
