Wallet Hub study ranks two S.C. cities in top ten list for best cities for sports fans in the nation

Both Columbia and Clemson, homes of the state’s two major universities, made the top ten for best midsize and small cities for sports fans, according to a study conducted by Wallet Hub.

The personal finance website came out with their best and worst cities for sports fans study Tuesday morning, which measured 341 cities nationwide based on 50 key metrics including average ticket price of games, performance level of a city’s teams, number of sports bars in the city and the attendance rates.

Columbia, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, ranked 7th in the best midsize cities for sports fans, which was topped by Ann Arbor, M.I.

Overall, Columbia ranked 41st in best cities for sports fans, as well as:

▪  59th in football rankings

▪  139th in basketball rankings

▪  26th in baseball rankings

▪  350th in hockey rankings (tied with multiple cities)

▪  76th in soccer rankings

Clemson, home of the Clemson University Tigers, ranked 5th in the best small cities for sports fans. That list was topped by East Lansing, M.I.

Overall, Clemson ranked 11th in best cities for sports fans, as well as:

▪  11th in football rankings

▪  78th in basketball rankings

▪  20th in baseball rankings

▪  350th in hockey rankings (tied with multiple cities

▪  4th in soccer rankings
