Cremated remains could find rest near Williams-Brice

If Gamecock football drives you to an early grave, you might be able to spend eternity near Willy-B.

Cathy’s Life LLC is proposing to build a columbarium — an above-ground structure that stores cremated remains — at 1011 Bluff Road, across the street from Williams-Brice Stadium.

The Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals will consider the proposal at its meeting Tuesday. An issue with the application is whether to allow zero parking spaces at the structure, instead of the required two.

Details about whether your cremated remains could find eternal rest not far from the echos of Sandstorm were unclear Friday.

“At this point the attention is focused on design and compatibility,” said J. Whitmire Suber, who is involved with the project.

In the application, West Columbia business Fletcher Monuments submitted sketches of the site plan for the structure, which would sit on about 1,900 square feet of property.
