LSU, Fournette jersey auction commands more than $100,000 for SC flood relief
More than $100,000 was raised for South Carolina flood relief efforts in the LSU auction that included star running back Leonard Fournette’s jersey worn against the Gamecocks.
Fournette wore the No. 7 jersey in LSU’s 45-24 win over South Carolina on Oct. 10 in a game that was moved to Baton Rouge because of historic flooding in the Palmetto State.
The final bid came in at $101,000 for an autographed Fournette jersey that included with a Steve Spurrier-signed South Carolina helmet and a Les Miles-signed LSU helmet. Both helmets were used in that same Oct. 10 game.
The opening bid was set for $7,000.
“Having been through a similar situation with my family during Hurricane Katrina when I was 10 years old, this is something that I wanted to do to help those in need,” Fournette said of the jersey auction. “The generosity of people helped my family make it through Hurricane Katrina. I’m hopeful that the money raised with this auction can make a difference for those flood victims in South Carolina.”
