USC’s Braden Webb named Freshman Pitcher of the Year
South Carolina pitcher Braden Webb has been named the Freshman Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The right-hander finished the year 10-6 with a 3.09 ERA and struck out 128 batters in 102 innings pitched.
Opponents hit just .216 against Webb, who was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft, No. 82 overall, by the Milwaukee Brewers last week.
Webb, who sat out last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, is expected to sign with Milwaukee and begin his pro baseball career.
He earned Freshman All-America distinctions from the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.
