Departing O-lineman: Thank you, Coach Muschamp, USC fans

True freshman Darius Whitfield, who will transfer from the South Carolina football team, issued a statement via Twitter on Thursday night thanking coach Will Muschamp, his USC teammates and the Gamecocks fans.

Whitfield, of Mobile, Ala., signed with the Gamecocks as a defensive lineman, then moved to offensive line this preseason. On Thursday he indicated he will transfer to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

He originally committed to USC on Oct. 13, 2015, the same day Steve Spurrier announced his resignation at the Gamecocks’ coach.
