Holtz says he’d hire Memphis coach Fuente for USC job

If he had to hire a new South Carolina head football coach, former Gamecocks coach Lou Holtz would pick Memphis coach Justin Fuente.

“I think Justin Fuente at Memphis has done a great job,” Holtz told Rob Cassidy, Southeast recruiting analyst for Rivals.com. “I like him because I like to look at a guy that has been at the school a couple of years and built something because I’d rather have a guy that has shown he can recruit and sustain success than the guy that just took what somebody else built and won.”

Holtz called the USC job “one of the best in the country. The weather is beautiful, the people are fantastic, there’s a lot to do. There are so many wonderful things about South Carolina. Don’t underestimate the value of the school, the value of the conference or the value of the fan base. The improvement in the facilities is amazing.”
