Gamecocks practice to endless loop of ‘Tiger Rag’
South Carolina is mixing up its football practice playlist by not mixing it up at all.
Head coach Shawn Elliott scrapped the usual varied song choices in favor of blaring Clemson’s “Tiger Rag” fight song. All practice. Over and over.
“It’s so annoying,” defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth said. “Sometimes I think I should just go over there and knock the speaker over.”
Linebacker Skai Moore estimated the song was played at least 20 to 30 times each day Monday and Tuesday. He expects the tune to play again when USC practices Wednesday and Thursday.
The hope is that it’s on limited rotation once the game begins Saturday.
“I feel like I know the whole song. It’s stuck in my head,” Moore said. “That’s definitely the goal, to hear it all week and not hear it Saturday.”
The Clemson band plays the song any chance it gets during games, but especially after scores. There’s an abbreviated version that’s used after first downs.
The version playing at USC’s practices is a little more than two minutes long.
“Just hearing that song over and over and over, you don’t understand how annoying that is,” Stallworth said.
