Ex-Gamecock coach Deke Adams bound for ECU
Another member of Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina football staff has found a place to land.
Ex-Gamecocks defensive line coach Deke Adams was hired as the East Carolina defensive line coach by new coach Scottie Montgomery. Adams spent three seasons in Columbia after joining the staff from North Carolina.
“I'm proud to say that I'm an East Carolina Pirate!! Let's get it!!!!” he tweeted.
Adams oversaw the final season with Kelcy Quarles and Jadeveon Clowney on the line. Then he coached two years in which the defensive front struggled to consistently generate pressure.
Before coaching at UNC, he was at Southern Miss and Louisiana-Monroe. He joins a staff that is replacing a group headed by longtime coach Ruffin McNeill, who was fired after his first losing season since 2011.
