Gamecocks swing from favorite to underdog in 2016 opener vs Vandy

When the betting lines first came out, South Carolina’s football team opened as a favorite against Vanderbilt.

That’s now changed.

The line had been South Carolina by three, and at points was as high as 4 1/2, but now Vegas Insider lists the Gamecocks as a three-point underdog.

One reason could be the news linebacker Skai Moore, South Carolina’s best returning player, will miss all of next season, but it’s unlikely one player would cause that large of a swing. The move could also be a reaction to money coming in on the Vandy side.

One of South Carolina’s three wins in 2015 came against 4-8 Vanderbilt by a 19-10 score. With that in mind, South Carolina could well be the underdog in five of its first six games, the lone exception being East Carolina.
