Longtime equipment manager Chris Matlock has found a home with South Carolina’s basketball teams, according to a report.

Matlock has joined the Gamecocks’ basketball equipment staff in an unknown role, TheBigSpur.com reported Thursday. Messages to Matlock were not immediately returned. The football team’s equipment manager for 16 years, Matlock was fired by coach Will Muschamp on April 22 but quickly took another position with the athletic department.

Matlock is expected to serve under Mac Credille, the basketball equipment manager since 1993 and someone who’s been with USC athletics since 1973. Several team sources confirmed to The State that Credille’s role will not change.

Credille also recently had a scholarship named after him. The Mac Credille Men’s Basketball Manager Scholarship was created by former manager Ron Weir and 13 other former managers and student-athletes.
