South Carolina kept its momentum in recruiting going Wednesday morning as junior college cornerback Jamarcus King signed a national letter of intent with the Gamecocks.

The Alabama native chose South Carolina over Auburn and Arkansas. He also had offers from Tennessee, Baylor and several others.

Wednesday was the first day of the midyear signing period.

King is a four-star prospect and the top junior college cornerback in the country, according to ESPN and Rivals.com. He also is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports and is considered the No. 16 JUCO prospect in the country.

King took an official visit to USC this past weekend. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder became interested in South Carolina when Will Muschamp became head coach and brought in Travaris Robinson as defensive coordinator. King and Robinson had already established a solid relationship.

“I feel like I can fit in,” King said. “He (Muschamp) and T-Rob (Robinson) have been together for a long time and I feel like they can get something going. Coach Robinson is a great coach, great personality and he’s a super personality.”

King attended Coffeyville Community College in Kansas and is a native of Eight Mile, Ala.

He earned all-conference honors this season after totaling 37 tackles with six tackles for loss, three interceptions and 10 passes defended.
