Former Arkansas defensive line commitment John Mincey (Homerville, Ga.) is down to three schools and they will get his official visits this month. And South Carolina will be one of his stops.
“He’s really going through a lot of anxiety right now,” said Clinch County coach Jim Dickerson. “It broke his heart to decommit from Arkansas (on Thursday). Big thing about John, he’s only 17 years old. Everybody realizes what an upside he has. His stock has really just exploded the last few weeks.”
USC, Florida State and Tennessee are his top three at this point, and Kentucky also has been involved. Mincey also plays basketball and is trying to work out his visits around that. Right now he’s scheduled to visit Tennessee on Jan. 19 and Florida State on Feb. 3rd. The USC visit could take place on Jan. 26.
USC is scheduled to visit with Mincey (6-foot-4, 270) and his parents on Monday.
“He likes all of them, checking them all out,” said Clinch County assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Trent Hatton. “He’s had a real good year and worked hard with his grades and in the weight room and things are starting to happen for him, so I’m proud of him.”
Hatton said he expects Mincey to announce a decision before the Feb. 7 signing day.
“I think he’s got his mind set on those three and I think he’s ready to get it done.”
