Two Gamecocks remain sidelined, but one could return for Mizzou rematch
South Carolina women’s basketball redshirt senior guard Lindsey Spann will be out for at least the next week with a knee injury, meaning she will likely miss two games: the No. 9 Gamecocks’ hotly anticipated home rematch against No. 11 Missouri.
Her status for USC’s game against No. 1 UConn is in doubt.
Head coach Dawn Staley, speaking on her “Carolina Calls” radio show Tuesday, offered an update on her injury-riddled roster ahead of her team’s game against Arkansas on Thursday. Sophomore guard Tyasha Harris and senior forward A’ja Wilson, who both returned from injuries to play during the team’s last game against Kentucky, are good to go moving forward, Staley said.
But Spann (knee sprain) and sophomore forward Mikiah Herbert Harrigan (bone bruise) will both be out against the Razorbacks, though Herbert Harrigan is closer to a potential return, possibly on Sunday against Mizzou, Staley said.
Herbert Harrigan is “day to day. I talked to Kiki today, and she said, ‘I’m coming back for the Missouri game,’ ” Staley said. “So she’s looking really good. She hasn’t practiced yet, but she’s moving around, she shot around, so we’ll see if she can heal up between now and Sunday.
“And then Lindsey, Lindsey’s probably, we’re gonna keep her out for a little bit and let her knee heal up and then maybe next week we’ll re-evaluate her.”
Spann missed five games earlier this season with the same knee injury, then returned for several contests before leaving midway through USC’s matchup with Vanderbilt this past Thursday. She did not play against Kentucky.
When she is healthy, Spann has been a starter and South Carolina’s most consistent scoring threat from 3-point range, converting 48 percent of her shots from long range and averaging 11.2 points per game.
Meanwhile, Herbert Harrigan has been Staley’s second option off the bench this year, averaging 7.2 points per contest and shooting 52.2 percent from the field. She’s missed the past two games since leaving early against Tennessee after taking a hard fall.
South Carolina, minus Herbert Harrigan and Spann, plays Arkansas on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena.
