Spring Valley shooting guard PJ Dozier will miss the 2013-14 basketball season after having ACL surgery earlier this week.
He and his family decided now would be the best time to have the surgery after the junior guard aggravated a long-standing injury during a basketball camp in Los Angeles in the early part of August.
“He just reinjured it,” said Perry Dozier, his father and coach at Spring Valley. “He’s had a torn ACL since 2007 when he was 12 years old. We haven’t said anything about it and he’s been playing on it since then.
“The doctors didn’t want to do surgery on it because he was young and they didn’t want to stunt his growth. We had to make a decision on when to get it repaired and we decided this would be the best time to do it.”
The surgery took place on Tuesday.
The 6-6 junior guard is considered a top 15 prospect for the 2015 class and has offers from Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State and South Carolina among more than 50 offers.
