Blythewood, Cardinal Newman basketball players commit to Stetson
Blythewood’s Keith Matthews and Cardinal Newman’s Christiaan Jones have decided to play their college basketball together.
Matthews and Jones committed to Stetson on Saturday after both visiting the college this weekend.
“We’ve been talking about this since the last live period,” Matthews said. “Christiaan and I are really close we’re in the gym all the time and we play good off each other, so it felt like it was just meant to be for the both of us to play again together at the next level.”
“It means the world to me, it was a hard decision but at the end of the day they (Stetson) were the most consistent,” Jones said. “To commit with Keith is really cool because we are like brothers, so we’ve talked about it a lot and we think we can really do something special here.”
Both Matthews and Jones said they won’t make any other visits.
Matthews, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. His other offers were Youngstown State, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, S.C. State, and Coastal Carolina.
Jones, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 16.9 points, 4 assists last year for the Cardinals. He had offers from Charleston Southern, Maryland Eastern-Shore, Youngstown State, Winthrop, James Madison and Presbyterian.
Stetson is a Division I school that plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
