Zion Williamson’s choice might come earlier than first expected
Zion Williamson hinted he might not wait until after the season to announce his college choice.
Williamson, the No. 2 recruit for the Class of 2018, said making a decision was high on his to-do list as he entered his senior season at Spartanburg Day.
“I just want to win another championship and hopefully pick my college before the season starts so I can get that out of the way,” Williamson said after scoring 31 points at the Adidas Gauntlet AAU event on Thursday. “Right now, I’m looking at a lot of schools. I’m probably not going to make a list. I’m going to pick a school when it feels right.”
South Carolina and Clemson are still high on Williamson’s list. USC coach Frank Martin and assistant coach Perry Clark as well as Clemson coach Brad Brownell were in attendance at his game Thursday.
Williamson said he probably will take official visits to Kansas, UCLA and Arizona because they are farther away but didn’t have dates in mind.
Williamson’s SC Supreme Team defeated Team Knight at Upward Stars Center.
Kentucky coach John Calipari also was there along with more than 30 coaches. UNC and Duke also are in the mix for Williamson.
“Clemson and South Carolina text everyday,” Williamson said. “They are recruiting me hard. The Final Four run was great for South Carolina, but in the end I will have to look at what players are at school for my position and coaching style.”
