Lower Richland’s Roach commits to Kentucky
Lower Richland junior guard Kameron Roach verbally committed to Kentucky on Friday.
Roach picked Kentucky over South Carolina and also had offers from Charlotte, Furman and Clemson among others. The 5-foot-7 junior is ranked No. 56 on the Hoopgurlz Top 60 for the Class of 2017.
“I didn’t want to wait too much longer and felt it was the right time to make my decision,” Roach said. “I had to follow my heart, prayed about and knew it was a great fit for me. I’m looking forward to being a Wildcat and being a part of Big Blue Nation.”
Kentucky went 24-10 last season and has won 20 or more games in each of the last six seasons.
Roach visited Kentucky in the summer for a camp and will make another trip there on Oct. 16. She was recruited primarily as a point guard but also might see some time at shooting guard because of her scoring ability.
As a sophomore, Roach averaged 11.5 points and 3.7 assists for the Diamond Hornets and was an all-state selection.
