New jazz series kicks off Wednesday

Jazz fans will want to check out a new music series kicking off Wednesday at Main Street Public House in downtown Columbia

The ColaJazz Artists Series, launched by local jazz trumpeter Mark Rapp, will feature musicians playing Wednesday nights through Oct. 12.

“We’re rotating through our roster of bandleaders involved in making Columbia a jazz destination,” Rapp said in a statement. Rapp and Main Street Public House owner Jimmy Latulipe hope the restaurant becomes known as a prime jazz venue.

The first featured performer kicking off the series is Reggie Sullivan. Following him will be Mike Frost, Sept. 21; Skipp Pearson, Sept. 28; Jmichael Peeples, Oct. 5; and Nick Brewer, Oct. 12. Each will perform with his band.

The show is at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Main Street Public House, 1556 Main St. Admission is free.
