FOODIE EVENTS
Thursday, Aug. 3, is National Watermelon Day: Celebrate by chilling, slicing and sharing a whole watermelon with friends. Challenge your buddies in a seed-spitting contest (distance or accuracy – you choose). Put seeded watermelon slices in a blender or food processor with a bit of ice to make a refreshing drink (add a bit of vodka or rum for a refreshing adult beverage). Seek out the elusive Bradford watermelon, purportedly the best-tasting watermelon grown, at the S.C. Farmers Market. If you can’t get it fresh, find the next best thing – pickled Bradford watermelon rinds – at Rosewood Market or Crave.
IPA Day at The Whig: This event features a lineup of more than 10 IPAs from Founders and Holy City brewers and a special food menu. From Founders: All Day, Centennial, Lemon Drop, ReDankulous and 10K. From Holy City: Sparkly Princess Sour IPA, Muy Amigo, Paradise, Run Home Jack and Dyno-Mite. 4 p.m.-midnight Thursday, Aug. 3, at 1200 Main St. www.thewhig.org
Pups & Pints: Bring your four-legged family member and donate an item or two on the Humane Society’s Wish List and get $1 off pints. View wish list at www.swampcabbagebrewing.com/events. 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Swamp Cabbage Brewing, 921 Brookwood Drive. www.swampcabbagebrewing.com
