SUSTO, High Divers kick off Five After Five series
WHAT: Five After Five concert series
WHERE: Five Points Fountain, at the intersection of Saluda and Greene streets
WHEN: Thursday, April 23 from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
This year’s Five After Five concert series kicks off with performance from Charleston-based bands SUSTO and the High Divers. The family-friendly event will feature face painting and sidewalk chalk for the kids and local craft brews for the grown-ups.
In its 17th year, the outdoor concert series has made a few changes. There will be five concerts spread out over five months, instead of a weekly concert series during the months of April and May, as it has been in years past. Thursday’s concert is the first installment.
Five After Five is also partnering with Five Points businesses for a “Wine Walk,” similar to Five Points’ Wine Down Wednesdays, which began last summer. Retailers will offer customers complimentary wine and snacks, paired with sales and specials.
After sipping and shopping, guests can enjoy a the free concert featuring alternative folk band SUSTO, which also performed at St. Pat’s in Five Points, and the High Divers, who cite influences ranging from Americana icon Tom Petty to psychedelic indie band Dr. Dog. This is SUSTO’s second year playing the series; they performed with Brave Baby in 2014.
The Vibe
Five After Five is a fun, relaxed environment where guests can enjoy local food and craft beer while listening to regional artists. Discover a new band, a new beer or a new favorite food, or go shopping at one of Five Points’ many boutiques. The outdoor setting also allows you to relax in the pleasant spring weather .
The Verdict
Five After Five is a good after-work or after-school event, with kids’ activities to keep little hands busy while parents unwind after a long day. The event is free, with opportunities to explore new music and local favorites.
