Gin Blossoms headlines tonight's Sprummer fundraiser for austim advocacy
Delicious food, a great location and one of your favorite bands from the ’90s will come together at Sprummer, the annual fundraising event for Winston’s Wish Foundation, which advocates for South Carolina children with autism.
The Gin Blossoms will headline the event, playing their effervescent ’90s hits and more recent material – their last album was released in 2010. The band hit major success in 1993 with their first single, “Hey Jealousy” and top 10 hit “Follow You Down” in 1996. The band broke up in 1997 but reunited in 2002, releasing two albums since.
In its ninth year, Sprummer – a combination of spring and summer – has featured ’90s favorites in the past, including Edwin McCain and last year’s headliner Sister Hazel.
While listening to the live music on the roof of the Carolina Walk condiminiums, guests can enjoy an extravagant spread from Loosh Culinaire. The menu includes applewood-roasted prime beef teres major, pecan-smoked cochon de lait (suckling pig) and ratatouille nicoise. Guests can also enjoy drinks from an open bar.
All the proceeds from the event – with tickets at $100 – will go directly to the Winston’s Wish Foundation, which provides a variety of programs to autistic children and their families in South Carolina.
“All the funds that are generated go right back into commnuities and programs across the state,” founder Marcella Ridley said. Winston’s Wish is an all-volunteer foundation, with no paid staff.
The foundation offers educational workshops with autism experts for parents; the Autism Ambassadors program, which pairs Junior League members with autistic children “so they can experience how kids with autism go through the world,” Ridley said; and the Bundle of Books program, which provides books to families of children newly diagnosed with autism, which “allows them to educate themselves in the privacy of their own home at their own pace,” Ridley said.
If you go: Sprummer is 7-11 p.m. Saturday, May 2, on the roof of the Carolina Walk condominiums. Tickets to Sprummer can be purchased at winstonswishfoundation.com.
