Girls Rock Columbia holds Spring Fling in honor of Midlands Gives
Girls Rock Columbia is holding a Spring Fling at El Burrito as a part of Midlands Gives, a 24-hour philanthropy challenge Tuesday, May 5, presented by the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
Girls Rock Columbia is a program dedicated to empowering girls and young women through music. The organization runs a week-long day camp each year in which participants learn to play traditional rock instruments, form their own bands and write their own songs. Registration for this year’s camp, which will occur in late July, is closed.
The Spring Fling, which lasts from 5 to 8 p.m., features face painting and live music from female-fronted, family friendly bands including West Columbia’s Lunch Money. Guests can also dine on Mexican fare in honor of Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday observing the victory at the Battle of Puebla.
Girls Rock Columbia is one of 251 participating charities listed on MidlandsGives.org, where donations of $20 and above can be made. Participating organizations include Pets Inc., Columbia City Ballet and the United Way of the Midlands. Donations must be made online to counted today.
