‘Art of Music’ concert comes to museum
The Columbia Museum of Art will host the latest installment in its “Art of Music” concert series presented by Baker and Baker – a performance by Duo de Vista called “Music from the Americas: North to South.”
Duo de Vista includes Ukrainian-born classical guitar virtuoso Marina Alexandra and award-winning flutist Teri Forscher -Milter. The two have been collaborating since 2011, and Sunday’s performance celebrates the release of their first CD.
Duo de Vista describes itself as a passionate duo with a wide repertoire of styles and sounds. The two have performed together at universities, festivals and concerts across the United States.
Forscher-Milter is a highly accomplished flutist who won the 1994 Presidential Scholar in the Arts and was honored by President Clinton in a White House ceremony. In 2002, she was diagnosed with focal dystonia, a neurological condition that affected two fingers on her left hand. She returned to performing in 2006 with a modified flute that can be played with eight fingers.
Alexandra was described by Guitar Magazine as an “amazing player that commands the guitar with world-class technique and musicianship that is uncommon.” Over the past 15 years, she has performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, on National Public Radio and Allentown Radio, and hundreds of venues across the country. She is the founder and director of the Guitar Muse Society and the Southern Guitar Festival and Competitions.
The performance will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
