EdVenture is all grown up for After Dark series
Adults can get in on the fun at EdVenture Children’s Museum at the latest installment of the EdVenture After Dark series, “Vibes.”
Past installments of EdVenture After Dark have explored the chemistry of cocktails, featured the museum under blacklight and brought in comics for guests to enjoy. “Vibes” combines a cocktail party and local music.
Guests can relax with a drink and food from Tombo Grille at the no-kids-allowed event while listening to local musicians Brent Lundy and George Fetner. The event is planned for the outdoor Congaree Terrace, taking advantage of the warm late-May weather.
The series helps bring in adults who may think their children are too young for the museum.
“If they can walk, they can come to the museum,” Marketing Director Kristy Barnes said. “Young parents can come and see all there is for their children at the museum.”
The series also attracts adults without children. In addition to the music, food and cocktails, guests can engage with some of the museum’s interactive exhibits.
“We want to make sure the museum is accessible to everyone,” Barnes said. “It’s important that adults play. As important as play is for children developmentally, it’s also important for adults. We work really hard, and we don’t play enough.”
Proceeds from the event will go to EdVenture’s Yes Every Child program, which benefits poor and underserved children and families in South Carolina.
“By them (adults) coming out and having a good time, underserved families can come to the museum and learn,” Barnes said.
IF YOU GO: EdVenture After Dark’s “Vibes” event begins at 6:30 p.m. on May 23 on the Congaree Terrace at EdVenture Children’s Museum (211 Gervais St.). Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres and two drinks and can be purchased at edventure.org.
