Some artists have the ability to make you a fan just by seeing them perform on stage. You may have that experience when catching GodIs Tanesha at a live show. In a Columbia scene striving for diversity, she’s exactly what we need. Her music is a mixture of soul with hints of hip-hop from its glory years. You don’t want to miss it.
Q. Tell us a little bit about who you are.
A. I am a singer/songwriter and recording artist out of Columbia SC. And though I’m a military brat it was here in Soda City where I fell in love with me. I’m also a mother of a beautiful 10 yr old girl, Ziggy. She’s the reason why I’m still here.

A. My musical influences growing up were Whitney, Mariah, Tony Braxton, Destiny’s Child, Pink and Christina Aguilera. One thing I love and admire about Whitney, Mariah and Tony is that vocally they all push the envelope. Their range captivated me. Before I could see who they were I heard them. Seeing their performance live made me a fan of Destiny’s Child.
Q. How do you feel about the music scene in Columbia?
A. I feel like the music scene here in Columbia is brewing with unseen talent. The culture here was very underrated for a while, but I can definitely see the growth in acceptance and teamwork. The city has made some major upgrades and I’m excited to be a part of the paradigm shift.
Q. What drives you?
A. My hope comes from knowing my daughter loves me so that drives me. Knowing that I have power inside of me that no one can touch unless I give them access drives me. I like to take action which brings me to why I chose the name GodIs Tanesha. Formally people knew me as Queen Tanesha. But when I changed my game, I changed my name. I’ve overcame so many obstacles and my accomplishments daily are confirmations. And as I am breathing I’ll keep flying.
Q. What’s next for you?
A. My single, “Metamorphosis,” which is the title track from my EP, will drop later on this year. I chose this title for a couple of reasons. One being the changes and, as I like to say, “God Training” or “GT.” The other being my beautiful mom, Audrena Hamlin, whose nonprofit program Metamorphosis is designed to help women who are faced with similar challenges and need guidance finding and remembering self love. The single is now available and can be found on all of your online music stores and streaming platforms.
