Broadway in Columbia recently announced that some of Broadway’s biggest hits will be coming to Columbia’s Koger Center for the Arts as part of the all-new 2019-2020 season.
This year includes the largest undertaking in the history of the series, when the Broadway blockbuster “Wicked” flies into Columbia for three weeks.
“We have been working on bringing ‘Wicked’ to Columbia for over five years,” said Daniel Hampel of Broadway in Columbia. “The show will anchor another spectacular offering of Broadway hits this upcoming season. It is a testimony to the growing significance of Columbia as a truly emerging center for arts and entertainment. It is very exciting to have an event of this magnitude right in our own backyard. This may well be the biggest entertainment event in the history of Columbia.”
Hampel also credits the critical importance of the Koger Center’s efforts and recent installation of a state-of-the-art grid system. “With this significant technical investment, it is now possible for large shows such as ‘Wicked’ to come here. Without the improvements undertaken by the Koger Center, ‘Wicked’ would never have been able to come nor other shows of equal size. These shows are simply enormous and require a great deal of sophisticated capabilities for a venue to host them. The Koger Center is now fully capable of that.”
This season will also feature the return of “Cats,” which makes an appearance for the first time in more than a decade, as well as the Columbia premieres of “Christmas Wonderland Holiday Spectacular,” “An American in Paris,” and “Bandstand.”
Season ticket packages start at $199. For more information, go to www.kogercenterforthearts.com.
