Music in the Midlands, June 11-17
Paal Nilssen-Love’s Large Unit
It’s a big band, Euro-style.
Norway musician Paal Nilssen-Love is a longtime collaborator on the music scene, but in 2013 formed the Scandanavian jazz band Large Unit. In the music, you might recognize the pumped-up notes of New Orleans jazz, stark solos found in fusion and a bit of the grind that is heavy metal. It’s a sound all its own. This concert is co-sponsored by the Nordic Club of Columbia and the Columbia World Affairs Council.
8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at 701 Center for Contemporary Art, 701 Whaley St. Tickets at eventbrite.com.
