Giant slide coming to Columbia July 4

A giant slide is sliding into Columbia on July 4.

The 1,000-foot slide will be placed along Gadsden Street between Laurel and Blanding, ending at Hampton Street. The Slide the City event, beginning at 11 a.m., also includes live music, food, drinks and water.

Bring your own floaties and water toys to use on the slide.

The Slide the City event has been traveling through the Southeast. In Raleigh, more than 5,000 people bought tickets in May.

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 12 at www.slidethecity.com/events/columbia. Ticket prices are from $15 for early registration for a single ride up to $45 for three rides on the day of the event.

Proceeds benefit the SC Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Celebrate Freedom Foundation.
