Celebrate summer with a trippy wine tasting
Turn up the funk for the longest day of the year.
The Columbia Museum of Art is hosting a celebration of the Summer Solstice and Andy Warhol’s psychedelic paintings on Sunday at 6 p.m.
The Psychedelic Summer Solstice Tasting and Tour will feature a wine tasting hosted by Doug Aylard from Vino Garage, as well as a spread of food.
Guests at the event will also enjoy an exclusive tour of the “From Marilyn to Mao: Andy Warhol’s Famous Faces” exhibition, which recently opened at the museum.
Museum Communication Director Dickson Monk describes the event as a chance to “’be a standing cinema’ … in the cool, DayGlo atmosphere of the museum.”
Monk said he was working on some publicity material for the exhibit and its surrounding events and was inspired by the lyric in David Bowie’s tune “Andy Warhol:”
“Like to take a cement fix
Be a standing cinema
Dress my friends up just for show
See them as they really are”
“I thought that line, ‘Be a standing cinema,’ captured the glam and fame that obsessed Andy, you know, people just standing around being fabulous and having their pictures taken, so I threw it in there,” Monk said. “Guests can come, eat and drink, see the show, and have a good time in a great atmosphere.”
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, and tickets are $65, or $55 for museum members.
The Columbia Museum of Art is at 1515 Main St. in downtown Columbia.
