Summer is the time to duck out of the heat and explore the diverse art that’s on display at different small galleries in the Midlands.

The McKissick Museum’s exhibit “Traditions, Change and Celebration,” the first-ever museum exhibit curated by a S.C. Native American, features regional art, pottery and objects from private collections. Free; until July 25. The museum is 816 Bull St.


City Art’s celebration of Eva Carter’s 50 years of creating iconic images on canvas, “Rhythm, Balance and Space,” will be on display in the main gallery through Aug. 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. City Art is at 1224 Lincoln St.


The Trenholm Arts Guild’s annual juried show features work by the members of the guild, which meets weekly at Forest Lake Park. It continues until July 24 in the Marshall A. Shearouse Wellness Center Gallery at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, One Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia.


Closing this week: if ART Gallery is exhibiting “Origins 2000-2002,” ceramic sculptures created by Peter Lenzo and his son, Joe Scotchie-Lenzo, until June 27. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and by appointment. The gallery is at 1223 Lincoln St.


The Columbia Museum of Art, currently hosting “From Marilyn to Mao: Andy Warhol’s Famous Faces,” is screening the documentary “Art and Craft,” about the prolific art forger Mark Landis, at noon Friday, June 26. Cost is $10, or $8 for members. The Warhol exhibit, which includes large portraits of Ted Kennedy, Mick Jagger and Judy Garland, is on display until Sept. 13. The Columbia Museum of Art is at the corner of Main and Hampton streets.


The State Museum’s Carolina Makers exhibit, showing through Feb. 7, features artisan crafts, objects and fashion created by South Carolina artists. The museum is at 301 Gervais St.
