Bottoms Up: Bulle Rock Gin at Copper Horse Distilling
Copper Horse Distilling is introducing a brand new spirit to its lineup named after the first thoroughbred race horse imported to the American colonies.
Rolling out to distributors this week, and currently being served at the distillery, Bulle (pronounced like “bully”) Rock Gin is not your normal gin.
Bulle Rock Gin, according to owner Richard Baker, is unique not only in its flavors, but also in the way it is aged.
“We use all grains from Adluh Mill and distill through a series of botanicals like lavender, apples, citruses,” Baker said. “Then, it’s aged in a used whiskey barrel.”
The whiskey barrel gives the gin some of its sweetness and flavor, but Baker says that it can’t be aged for too long – otherwise, it may turn too oaky.
So far, Baker said the gin has had an extremely positive reception and noted that the head bartender at Motor Supply Co., Josh Streetman, used the gin for two separate cocktails during Harvest Week.
Gin is perfect for many cocktails, especially the classic gin and tonic, which is refreshing during the heat of the summer. Another favorite cocktail that uses the flavorful spirit is the Tom Collins, which mixes gin with lemon juice, sugar and carbonated water.
Overall, as Copper Horse continues to grow, so does its inventory. Baker is always open to having new and old customers come tour the facility and tasting room, he said.
